2018 June 28th – Special Meeting – Derek’s Resignation & Long Term camper parking during construction


The Round Lake City Council met in special session on Thursday, June 28th, 2018 at City Hall. Items on the agenda were the long term parking of 5th wheel campers for the Weitz Construction employees and the open employee position due to Derek Nelson’s resignation. Councilmembers in attendance were Walon Habben, Gary Larson and Mayor Douglas Knuth. Others in attendance were Derek Nelson, Bruce Bentele and Clerk Elaine Walker.

Meeting was called to order at 6:15pm.

Motion by Habben, second by Larson to approve the agenda. All ayes: Carried.

Motion by Larson, second by Habben to allow the long term camping of the 5th wheel campers located on 1st Ave by the garage on Eugene and Melanie Cleland’s property. Two campers for the duration of the New Fashion Pork project. Permission to allow others if related to this project only. Weitz Construction has agreed to pay for installation of the necessary utilities and they will be responsible for winterizing to avoid issues during the winter months. All ayes: Carried.

Derek Nelson has accepted a job offer to work for the City of Brewster and submitted his letter of resignation to the Round Lake City Council. His last day will be tentatively August 2nd, 2018. The Council would like to retain his assistance with the gas department until a replacement can be hired and trained. He has agreed to be hired on a consulting basis while the transition is being made. Council agreed to pay him his current wage for time spent consulting for the City of Round Lake.

Mayor Douglas Knuth and Councilmember Court Baumgard are on the personnel committee and will work with Clerk Elaine Walker to create an application packet with the job description and application needed to apply for the position. Councilmember Walon Habben will work with Clerk Elaine Walker to get the job opening posted online and the local newspapers.

Next regular council meeting will be July 11th, 2018 at 6:15pm at City Hall.

City Hall will be closed for the July 4th holiday on Wednesday, July 4th, 2018.
